What about Recovery???? Rather than continue to offer a bandaid, do the humane thing and pick these people up and help them get clean. It’s insane that we continue to allow those who are obviously unable to function and are dying in front of us to suffer like this. The harm reduction paradigm does not work, the evidence is clear. We need safe, long term places for people to detox, recover and be supported pre and post treatment - recovery is hard, but killing yourself everyday is harder. I know because I have been there. Our non profit - Pivot Empowerment Education and Recovery works with people to move forward NOT backwards.

This entire interview was well worth the watch! Yes, the street-entrenched, especially those who struggle with addiction and mental health issues are not being heard. The solution to current social dilemmas will require an all-of-community approach that requires all citizens to be heard. That includes the homeless population, those with addictions, and the residents and businesses in the surrounding community. Working together. Not just the decisions-makers, the activists and the stakeholders of the programs.
