Those who support safe supply engage in the racism of lowered expectations. They believe drug users can't help but use drugs. Rehabilitation is impossible due to their addiction. Therefore free supply of "safe" (not non-addictive) drugs is the only option to a caring society.

I suspect these Canadians also believe that criminals and terrorists also can't overcome deficiencies in their society that forces them into crime.

They cannot recognize their own racism.

I guess you needed a topic to go up against the "progressives," but I wouldn't say any of us Ps are hanging our hats on the racist argument. I've only ever heard it used to explain why some drugs were singled out for hatred, like opioids, while others were embraced and are now deeply loved, like alcohol, even though the legal one of those two examples causes so much individual and societal harm. I see you there, whipping up hatred among people over invented issues when what we really need is to put down the weapons and figure things out so that our families and co-workers stop dying. You're all about treatment and Sublocade, I get that. I haven't met a "progressive" yet who doesn't see treatment and safe substitutes as part of the spectrum of needs. But you and I both know this is far from a one-size-fits-all issue. Why would you rather have it all your way than find consensus that might keep people alive? I find that truly baffling, like your ideology is so hardass that you'll happily see people keep dying if things can't go all your way. It reminds of my sex work advocacy, where I find people who hate the idea of sex work arguing to increase the risk for workers rather than decriminalize it to remove the dangerous elements.
